GIMP is participating in this year’s Summer of Code, “a program that offers student developers stipends to create new open source programs or to help currently established projects.” Our project ideas are published at the GIMP Wiki. Students can now apply at the Google web site. Yes, there are prizes: a t-shirt, and 4500 USD for successfully completed projects.
Version 2.2.11 of the GNU Image Manipulation Program is now available. This is a bug-fix release in the stable 2.2 series. Please see the NEWS file for a detailed list of changes. The source code can be retrieved from ftp.gimp.org and its mirrors. Binary packages for the various supported platforms will become available soon.

Barely in time for GIMP's tenth birthday is the 10th Anniversary GIMP Splash Contest. This new contest requires a tutorial with the submissions, so get out your favorite text editor and show us all of the beautiful things you can make your GIMP do. Submit those entries to the contest area of this web site and wait to see if there is a gimp-2.2.10 with your entry as the very special release splash.
